Ardoginna

Ardoginna

A coastal townland in West Waterford. Located 2 km west of Ardmore village. Canon Power in his Place-names of the Decies reads Ardoginna as 'the height of the O'Kinnys, or Kenna's height'.

Who the Kenna's were is not clear and the nearby McKenna's Castle is named after a 19th century family (http://www.ardmorewaterford.com/mckennas-castle/). The Down Survey maps of 1641 & 1670 (http://goo.gl/6BVKYb) shows the townland in the ownership of James Fitzgerald whose core lands were in Kildare.
