P21 Main Street, Ardmore, Waterford

Groups audience:

Listed as house No. 13 in the 1911 Census The head of the household Alice Quinn, was single her occupation is listed as a grocer. This property was a single story building and was either acquired by the owners of no. 14 at a later stage or else rented to Alice Quinn, and it is feasible that the grocer shop may have been transferred into no. 14 at some stage. There was a separate entrance on the left hand side to a single room which was once a butcher’s stall. Where the entrance to the lounge is now was actually a double door into a shed with a rear exit giving access to the yard behind. House No. 13 is listed as having three rooms with four windows to the front. However in a map of the village published by the Ordnance Survey in 1925, based on a survey carried out in 1905, it shows two separate buildings in this location We are not sure if there are any connections between this Alice Quinn, aged 50 in 1911, and the Quinn's at house no. 15 which was occupied by Edmond who was a widower and his son Thomas, and daughter Mary Alice.
