This house was originally owned by the Foley family, who originated in Knockmonlea, Killeagh. In residence in 1916 were John Foley and his sister Lizzie. They had an extensive shop & general merchants there.  Lizzie was grand aunt to Tommy Mooney. John was a co-founder of Ardmore Sinn Fein Branch along with Tom Veale and Lizzie was a founder member of the local branch of Cumann na mBan. John was a County Councillor. They were raided by the Black & Tans in the 1920s and John was taken hostage for a time.
