Groups audience:

This house is listed as a Parochial House in the 1911 census. It was the residence of  Fr. O’Shea CC, an Australian, by birth. The building of St. Declan's Hall and the rescue of the crew from the “Teaser” which was wrecked in Ardmore Bay in March 1911 for which he was awarded a gold medal by the RNLI, were the highlights of his tenure in Ardmore before being by replaced by Father John Walsh in 1915. Fr. O’Shea is reported to have links with the Irish Volunteers in their early formative years.Other parish priests known to us were Fr. Prendergast, Fr. Galvin, Fr. Byrne, Fr. Cahill, Fr. Meehan adn Fr. Wall, Fr. O’Connor and our current incumbent, Fr. Guiry. Father Walsh was one of a number of Catholic priests with that surname who served in Ardmore over a 400 year period.. In later years he initiated moves to bring electricity to the parish and that work was continued by Fr. Cahill, along with Jim Cashman, Jim Quain, Jim Mansfield and others. Electricity came to Ardmore village in 1954 when Fr. Cahill turned on the supply for the first time at a pole at the Boathouse corner.
