This has been the residence of the resident medical doctor for the Dispensary District of Kilshannig. The house dates from c.1860 after a new, purpose built dispensary was built nearby in c.1850, with accommodation for a practice nurse and upgraded facilities following the Famine. The following doctors lived and served there. (1.) Dr. Thomas Henry Sandyford approx. 1880-1898. Buried in Abbeyswell (See headstone CO-ABWL-0030 Abbeyswell in www.historicgraves.com). (2.) Dr Michael Ryan 1898-1944 who was regularly called out to attend wounded Volunteers during the War of Independence and his car was also commandeered on occasions to transport guns and personnel. Buried in Glantane Church Cemetery (See headstone CO-GLSJ-0003 Glantane in www.historicgraves.com) (3.) Dr. McCabe 1944- c 1962. (4.) Dr. Barry 1962-c 1990 and who continues to live in the house when retired.
