Army Villa, Brittas

Army Villa, Brittas

The British army established an army barracks here about the time of the 1798 rebellion and had a cavalry troop based there in the early 1800’s during the Whiteboy activities. An RIC officer was shot dead by this troop when the RIC disguised themselves by wearing white shirts to try to get close to the Whiteboys but were shot at by the soldiers and one was killed. The Roche family have been in farming in Brittas since the time of Griffiths Valuation when Morgan O Connell was the landlord following the purchase by Daniel O Connell to keep the townland in the O Mullane Family.
