Groups audience:

Dr Pat O'Callaghan won the gold medal at the Olympic Games for hammer throwing in Amsterdam in 1928 and in Los Angeles in 1932.  He was born in 1905 in Derryconnell, Duhallow. Following his graduation from Medical school in Dublin in 1926 he joined the Royal Air Force Medical Service and later returned to Tipperary where he set up his own practice. A treat to people attending the surgery was to view his gold medals which he won in Amsterdam in 1928 and Los Angeles in 1932. Lack of funding prevented him from representing Ireland at further Olympic Games.
