O Sullivans Forge Glashabee

This was a more recent forge operated by the O Sullivan family from 1944-1981.

 

Creans Home Knockdrishlagh

This house was a very important meeting place during the War of Independence and Eamon DeValera stayed there overnight on occasions.

 

RIC Barracks Ahadallane

These were situated just across the parish boundary in Ahadallane townland which is in Donoughmore parish.

 

Old Presbytery Beennamweel West

This would appear to have been built in about 1870 and served as the local Catholic Curates residence until about 1975 when a new presbytery was built. The house started off as a bungalow but attic rooms were added later. It is now the home of the Healy family

 

Horgan Family Gortmolire

The current house in photo was built in the 1950’s by the Deady Family who still reside there. Before that there was a prefab dwelling which had been a British army camp. It was purchased by the Ring family. Michael Ring was an active member of Lombardstown Company of the Volunteers.

 

Waters House, Gortmolire

This property was leased by the Waters family from the Lombard descendants from before Griffith Valuation times (See headstone CO-KSNG-0227 Newberry/Kilshannig in www.historicgraves.com).

 

Brittas House

Currently in possession of the Sheehan family (See headstone CO-GLSJ-0281 Glantane in www.historicgraves.com) and has been since Griffiths Valuation.

 

Ned Murphys, Brittas

This was the home of Ned Murphy who built the house himself in the 1930’s. Ned was the most senior IRA volunteer in The Lombardstown Company and rose to be second in command to Gen. Liam Lynch in the North Cork Division.

 

The Local Pub, Glantane

This is one of the oldest pubs in Glantane village and has changed hands a few times. It was owned by the Linehan family, the O Hanlon family and then by Dick Barrow (See headstone CO-GLSJ-0198 Glantane in www.historicgraves.com).

 

O Flynns, Glantane

This has had a number of owners in recent years. The O Flynn family live there now, they were preceded by the Kearney family then the Finnegan family.
