St Mary's Well

St Mary's Well

Groups audience:

St. Marys Well is situated across the road from St. Berichearts well. It is in the townland of Poulavere (the 'hole of the finger'). It was originally a Baptistery. Ancient lore records that Cromwell granted it to one of his Roundheads. It was lined with oak planks and lead. The Roundhead decided to remove the lead and when he put his hand into it, his fingers fell off.
