Plot 3a Ballydonohue

Plot 3a Ballydonohue

James Connor held 2 acres here in 1828. In 1848/9 this acre was held by Ellen Connor of the Misses Gascoigne at an annual rent of £4/4 yearly. In 1850, in addition to her house here, Ellen held a corn mill and a tucking mill. Her house was thatched and drystone walled, old and not in perfect repair. It was 34’ long by 17’ wide by 7.6 high.

The corn mill had a 12’ wheel with 36 buckets and one grinding stone capable of grinding four stone of wheat per hour. The millrace was blocked and the mill was not in working order ‘nor likely to bee’. The tucking mill had a ten foot diameter wheel and thirty buckets, but had not been in use for three years, and was derelict.

By 1852 Ellen ‘Connors’ still held the house, valued at £1/4s, but her acre, now extended as two acres, had passed to William Fenton sometime during 1850 or 1851, who was also now the immediate lessor of her house.

From 1851-1871 this property was held in succession by William, Patrick & Margaret Fenton.
