Creans Home Knockdrishlagh

Creans Home Knockdrishlagh

This house was a very important meeting place during the War of Independence and Eamon DeValera stayed there overnight on occasions. While on the run he ended up in this house one evening and the following day he was dressed up as a woman and taken by pony and trap to Mallow railway station to escape. When Jerry O Hanlon was shot and seriously injured he was brought to Creans House where he was hidden in a cart of straw and taken outside the British army cordon to be treated by Dr. Ryan and taken to hospital in Cork. Dr Ryan stated to the RIC he was blindfolded and brought to the patient and did not know where he had been.
