Using maps.google.ie video

A short screencast video showing how we use maps.google.ie to find places and also how to record their exact location. We copy the resultant coordinates into a research spreadsheet and then use this location when uploading related digital media to various websites.

Type the address for your point of interest into the search bar and hit return.

Zoom into your point of interest, this is usually done after a site visit, if a site visit is not possible then we tend to do this with a person from the locality who can confirm the location. Once you are happy you are in the right place then right-click on the location and scroll down the menu bar to 'whats here' , click on this and the location coordinates are entered into the search bar to the top left. Copy and paste these into your core research spreadsheet (everything goes into this core spreadsheet).

We always have www.osi.ie and www.archaeology.ie open along with maps.google.ie when tracing places on the web.
