Groups audience:

This was the site of the McCarthy family home. In 1911 head of the family was Patrick McCarthy, who lived there with his wife Catherine, and six children Mary, Hanora, Jeremiah, Ellen, Catherine, and John. This was a thatched house with two windows to the front. The family house was demolished in the 1960's when Jeremiah’s son, Paul having first started a small cabinet factory in the old cottage, demolished it and built a larger purpose built furniture factory known as Waterford Wood and operated by Paul McCarthy & his son Conor. There were three furniture factories in Ardmore at one stage (McCarthy’s, Dunne’s & Carlton’s).
