P42 Main Street, Ardmore, Waterford

This is the only house on Main street that is still occupied by the same family as in 1916.  Head of house in 1911 was Ellen Keevers and her son James was 15 in 1911. Jimmy Keevers and his wife Caroline and family lived here after Ellen. Caroline was teaching in the Old Ardmore National School until her retirement in 1955, when the new school opened. Before she married Jimmy Caroline used cycle from her home in Kilbrittain, Co Cork on a Sunday evening and make the return journey on a Friday (a roundtrip of 190 km)!
