Cathair O Sulllivans, Caheraveelane

These O Sullivans were famous athletes in the early 1900,s and the name “Cathar” derives from the townland they lived in which was supposed to be named after an O Mullane family. Arthur was a three times Irish champion and he and his brother would walk miles to sports events and come away with multiple prizes. They were primarily runners and lived in a very isolated location not far from Nadd village and Caheraveelane is in Kilshannig parish. A descendant of this family, Eugene O Sullivan, represented Australia in the 1956 Olympic games. Other members excelled at other sports also including boxing. The photo is their original home that was abandoned about 30 years ago when a new bungalow was built nearby.
