Mrs Prendeville's House

Mrs Prendeville's House

Groups audience:

Mother Prendeville/Prindable had the house across the road from the national school and many of the school children called to her for a cup of water. The lads must be remembering Hannah Prindable who is listed as aged 11 in the 1911 census. In 1911 Maurice (65) lives here with his wife Ellen (50), son Jeremiah (25) and young Hannah. The census tells us Ellen had borne 5 children of whom 4 still lived in 1911. Maurice signed the census Prindible but the RIC constable may have chanegd this to Prinable. This is now commonly spelled Prendeville in Cork (https://goo.gl/SDtcSs). The story is told that one of the Prendeville women was from Kerry and she had the unusual ability to carry heavy loads such as buckets on her head.
