This house was occupied by the Burkes, John, his wife Bridget, and their adult children, Mary Ellen & John, according to the 1911 census. Both men were carpenters. A decade before Bridget & Mary Ellen had listed dressmaker as their occupation. Mary Ellen also made mantles, a form of cloak. In the 1901 census an older son, Michael, another carpenter, was also listed here. 
John Burke, aged 25 in 1911, was a renowned footballer and hurler and was later awarded an honorary doctorate by Cardiff University in recognition of his hugely successful efforts in raising funds for cancer research. he was founder member of the Cardiff-based philanthropic business mens-group known as Tenovus. John was the first Ardmore man to represent Waterford in Senior hurling.
